For the Week Ending May 1, 2015
The Federal Open Market Committee made no changes to policy interest rates in this month's meeting. When they will make changes still remains a question.
Despite recent data signaling a slight weakening of the economy, interest rates have been creeping up this past week. Economic improvement is still expected.
Consumers showed less confidence in the economy in April, spending less. Lower spending can help keep inflation low, which is good for interest rates.
March pending home sales reached the highest levels since June 2013, pointing to a healthy spring market. It was the 3rd consecutive month of improvement.
The housing market continues to recover, and home prices continue to rise. Home price increases outpaced both inflation and wage gains over the last 12 months.
Foreclosure activity fell in the 1st quarter, reaching the lowest level since 2007. Many previously foreclosed upon homeowners are back in the market and buying again.
A thief stuck a pistol in a man's ribs and said, "Give me your money!"
The shocked gentleman said, "You cannot do this. I'm a U.S. Congressman!"
The thief replied, "In that case, give me MY money!"
