For the Week Ending December 25, 2015
Oil prices have fallen to multi-year lows, pressuring energy and commodities stocks. Cheaper oil hinders inflation, which helps keep interest rates low.
Manufacturing numbers are down as businesses reduce excess inventory. This contributes to cooling the economy, which in turn supports low mortgage rates.
Overall though, the economy remains encouraging, as personal income increased for the 8th straight month. Increased income supports increased spending in 2016.
Existing home sales showed a sharp drop in November, but it is expected to be only temporary. Many blame the drop on new TRID regulations delaying closings.
New home sales continued to rise in November, up 4.3% from October and 9.1% year-over-year. Sales have risen 14.5% in 2015 compared to 2014.
Home prices are expected to continue to rise in 2016, albeit at a slightly slower pace than 2015. Demand is expected to remain strong even if rates increase.
What did Mrs. Claus say to Santa when she looked into the sky?
"It looks like rain dear."
